6ft Planted Tropical Tank Journal Update – 30 Sep 12

Well this morning I work up to the fish swimming around the top of the tank again. This time it was because last night I introduced the CO2 back into theĀ  tank and as a result the Carbon was too high in the planted tropical tank.

I set the CO2 Needle to 2 bubbles per second and hooked up the PH probe so that it could monitor the PH in the tank. The CO2 probe is set to 6.5 to turn on/off the CO2 but this morning the fish were swimming around the top of the tank so no doubt not enough oxygen in the water for them.

I noticed that the PH Sensor was reading 6.8 and the CO2 was still going so I turned off the CO2 and placed an Air stone into the tank to quickly add oxygen back into the water.

I also completed a 25 % water change to remove any surplus CO2 and to clean up the water.

Having an Flural FX 5 on the tank makes it so much easier when all you have to do is add a hose to the bottom of the filter and then drain the tank. Beats carrying buckets through the house and getting in trouble for messing up the house.

I will have another look at the CO2 later today and maybe lower the Co2 intake to 30 bubbles per minute (30ppm)

Regards Steve
